Novellus Systems, Inc. is a $2-billion company that is a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing equipment. In 2005 the new VP of Human Resources felt that the company had outgrown its traditional forms of employee communications and was in need of an update. Alire & Associates developed an internal communications program for the company designed to promote and strengthen its core culture and to recognize employee achievements.
In response to the plan, Novellus asked Alire & Associates to research, organize, write, and design the following projects.
Novellus Employee Handbook
Our client wanted to add a “fun” and lively feel to their employee handbook. We suggested a design incorporating professionally dressed, jumping people and reorganized and rewrote much of the material with a lighter, first person approach. The company also needed to have the handbook look professional AND be easily updated. Alire & Associates developed a binder system with full-color cover and section dividers and a single typeface and font used throughout for a unified look.

The client wanted Careers at Novellus to reflect the spirit and culture of the company. We researched “best practices” used on leading company’s websites and then suggested new content and organization. Next, our client asked us to research and write the new content and select visuals that appropriately represented the company. visit site
Employee Benefits Communication Program
Annual enrollment at Novellus is an important communications opportunity for the company. It has a generous benefits program and needed to remind employees of that. Alire & Associates designed and wrote a personalized benefits review which was mailed to each US employee’s home. This followed up with a coordinating post card, also mailed to the homes, as a reminder of Open Enrollment and the Health Fairs at major locations.
Quarterly Employee Newsletter
Alire & Associates recommended an electronic, web-based newsletter for the world wide employee base. It is now published each quarter, and our team continues to develop story lists, research and write stories, arrange photos and illustrations, and fully design the newsletter for loading on the company’s internal website. visit site
